You can’t put anything you want in the general waste skip. There are certain restrictions, such as hazardous and harmful items that require prior arrangement with KSD. These include:

Will I need a permit?

If you are going to place the skip on private property, there is no need for a permit. If, on the other hand, you plan on placing the skip on a public highway, you will need to apply for a permit. The local council issues skip permits for which they charge a fee. Allow at least 48 hours for acquiring the permit.

Where can I place my skip?

You can store your skip on your own property if you have enough space. You could place it in your garden or on a driveway. You need to consider access for the delivery and pick up. The other option is to place the skip on the road. If you plan to do this, you’ll need to apply for a skip permit.

How long can I hire a skip for?

Generally, the average time for people to hire a skip is no more than two weeks. However, it is possible to hire a skip for longer, but you’ll need to arrange this with the skip hire company in advance.

How much stuff can I put in a skip?

It is usual for skips to be filled so that the contents are level with the skip’s top. Generally, skips are marked ‘Level Loads Only.’ The conditions of hire will also state this requirement. What this means is that you should never fill your skip above the height of the sides, as falling debris could pose a hazard when the skip is moved.

How much you pay to hire a skip depends on how long you hire the skip for and the size of the skip.
